Candlewood students in Ms. Pope’s Girls in STEM and Sustainable Development lunch club recently heard from guest speakers about careers in data science, renewable energy infrastructure, sustainable design, architecture and quantitative sustainability.

Congratulations to our 2024 winter varsity athletic teams that were honored by NYSPHSAA as Scholar-Athlete programs! Thirteen of our teams qualified for this distinction by having 75% of their rosters earn an average GPA of 90 or above.

Suffolk County Representative Tom Donnelly visited Signal Hill to present kindergartener Mia Rodrigues with a proclamation recognizing her winning artwork in the Suffolk County Legislature's 2024 Bicycle Safety Poster Contest!

Ms. Ievolo, a Hills West Photo teacher, gave her photo students eclipse glasses and a special lens cover for their cameras and taught a lesson on how to safely and creatively document the events of the April 8th eclipse.

During the month of March, several students from West Hollow received recognition for their outstanding dedication to embodying the values of the school motto, R.O.A.R., through their positive interactions with both peers and staff. Congratulations!

Mrs. Nemiroff's 5th grade Math Olympiad students at Paumanok participated in a marshmallow tower building contest!

The 5th graders at Vanderbilt had fun showcasing their ancient civilization artifacts to their 3rd and 4th grade peers at an engaging gallery walk in the school cafeteria.

Sunquam Student Council members and their family members volunteered at the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless by sorting clothing and donating two carloads of food pantry items that they collected during their March Madness food drive.

Students and staff across Half Hollow Hills marveled at the miracles of nature during the solar eclipse!

Ms. Jennings' 5th period Earth Science class at Hills East was recently settling in to learn how earthquake waves travel. Suddenly, the floor and desks shook and glassware in the cabinets rattled loudly. The students looked around at each other for about 8 seconds wondering what to make of the rumbling noise. Realizing it was a true earthquake was a thrill! After taking a break to watch a quick "breaking news" story, they finished their lesson and reflected on the odds of this happening in New York in the middle of a tectonic plate - very uncommon! Everyone in the room will remember this day and the excitement that came with it! 

Half Hollow Hills Central School District is proud to announce that we have been honored with the "Best Communities for Music Education" designation from The NAMM Foundation for our outstanding commitment to music education!

Students and staff across Half Hollow Hills wore blue as part of the #LightItUpBlue campaign in celebration of World Autism Month, helping to increase the awareness that leads to understanding and acceptance for those impacted by Autism.

Congratulations to Sunquam's Araceli Morales (Dance/Choreography) and Candlewood's Ella Turnquist (Literature) on receiving the highest honor in the New York State PTA Reflections competition, Awards of Excellence!

8th graders at Candlewood and West Hollow participated in presentations (live and virtual) from volunteers with the 3GNY non-profit discussing the lessons of the Holocaust. It provided a chance for the speakers, students and teachers to have a dialogue while connecting history with current events, intolerance and injustice.

Thanks to their PTA unit, students at Otsego spent a week "Eating the Rainbow!" A different color of the rainbow was chosen for each day, and students dressed in that color and ate fruits and vegetables of that color.

Suffolk County Police Officer Levy visited West Hollow recently and met with the 6th grade teams to discuss the importance of being an upstander, using appropriate words, and treating others with kindness and respect.

Congratulations to Hills West's Isabella Williams and Nadia Ahmed for receiving scholarships from the Long Island Mathematics Conference Board! Both students were allowed to invite a mathematics teacher who inspired them to perform well in mathematics; Isabella invited Ms. Javaherforoush and Nadia invited Mrs. O'Grady.

Students at Signal Hill were inspired to embrace a vibrant, active lifestyle through the joy of dance and physical activities during a weeklong Physical Education Residency by Ker Boom Kidz!

Congratulations to our Hills West DECA team who competed in a variety of business categories at the DECA NY State Competition. Malika Salehmohamed finished in 3rd place in Personal Financial Literacy and qualified to compete at the International competition in Anaheim, CA!

Members of the Half Hollow Hills PTSA Legislation Committee recently visited Albany to meet with our state representatives and share our district's legislative priorities with them. The students received legislative experience while lobbying for essential items like foundation aid school funding, school safety & security, and healthy meals for all.

9th graders at Hills West attended an assembly called Deconstructing Symbols of Hate where Donna Rosenblum, museum educator at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County, addressed the impact of symbols of hate and empowered our students to respond as 'upstanders' when faced with these symbols.

The Hills East DECA Business Team had a great showing at the DECA NY State Competition with six International Competition Qualifiers and four Top 10 finishers!

The Hills West & East Counseling Centers recently hosted their annual Spring Mini College Days where admissions representatives from many colleges and universities met with students to share important information about college and to answer any questions the students had.
