COUNSELING CENTER SUPPORT SERVICES

The West Hollow Middle School Counseling Center benefits students, parents, teachers and administrators while placing a great emphasis on creating a positive and supportive learning environment.

SCHOOL COUNSELORS

The counselors, professionally trained and NY State Certified Counselors, are acting liaisons that identify student and district needs in an effort to ensure academic success. Middle school counselors are available to listen, encourage, and assist students' development academically, personally, and socially, as well as increase Team communication, provide support, act as student advocates, and serve as a resource for parents.

Students and parents should feel free to talk with the counselors to seek help or obtain information. Except in an emergency, students should not visit the counseling center during class time without permission and a pass from the classroom teacher. Rather, students should make an appointment with their counselor during their lunch period.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS

School psychologists, highly trained professionals in psychology and education, help educators and parents better understand a child's learning abilities and how each student will achieve academic success. The psychologists are an integral component of the Committee on Special Education, as well as being responsible for administering, interpreting and translating tests and measurements into educational needs.

Counseling services are also provided to students either individually or in a group setting in order to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that may interfere with school performance.
