Our Mission
The mission of the yearbook club is to record the events and lifestyles of the students at High School West. We endeavor to capture the spirit of our school community each year. The club’s main goal is to provide students with a visual and written representation of High School West’s successful and diverse academic programs, extracurricular activities, sports programs, staff and student body.
The staff is given the opportunity to work with professional grade computer programs in order to render layouts, pictures, and engaging copy. Staff members are also exposed to real world publishing deadlines, and are responsible for meeting those deadlines. Students acquire real life skills as they work together to complete their ultimate goal of an engaging and sophisticated publication. Students are also rewarded with rich and meaningful peer relationships, which is the cornerstone of the yearbook experience.
All students are welcome, however, there are specific requirements that must be met in order to become a member of the permanent staff. Students are required to fill out applications and go through an interview process in order to earn a staff position. Staff members are expected to commit many hours of work, usually beginning in September and lasting until June. Members are expected to meet and work in the yearbook office at least 2 days a week. Advisers make all final decisions.
