Candlewood’s Family and Consumer Science classes celebrated International Culture and Cooking Day on Friday, January 17th, with a flavorful journey around the globe!
6th grade students in Mrs. Kaplan’s Home and Careers classes, along with their parent and guardian volunteers, shared dishes and cultural insights that highlighted traditions from various countries. The day included a collaborative effort, as students created and presented slides on their culture and recipes.
Highlights included empanadas from Ecuador, prepared by Ms. Monique Morales and her niece Mikayla Bloom-Morales; a traditional Turkish salad introduced by Mrs. Celik and her daughter Zeynab; Chana Masala, shared by Dr. Anurag Purwar and his son Neel, who also led a lesson on India; handmade margherita pizzas from Italy, presented by Mr. Rosario Curto and his son Christian; and Korean BBQ Bulgogi, prepared by Isaac Lee’s mother, Mrs. Lee, and his grandmother, Mrs. Cheung, who added a fun game on Korean knowledge to the mix! Thank you to all the families who made this day so enriching and delicious. Students and staff alike enjoyed learning about these cultures through food, presentations and interactive activities!
