Half Hollow Hills – Helping Our Own
In response to the tragedy of 9/11/01, “Half Hollow Hills – Helping Our Own,” was established for the purpose of collecting funds and receiving grants to be used for the provision of relief to members of our community who have experienced tragedy or loss. The mission statement for this organization is as follows:
Half Hollow Hills – Helping Our Own, a subsidiary of REACH-Community Youth Agency (CYA), is a not-for-profit organization. The chief purpose of Half Hollow Hills – Helping Our Own is to support district residents and employees with financial, psychological, or educational assistance in times of crisis. Half Hollow Hills – Helping Our Own which was born as a result of the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, comprises administrators, faculty and trustees of the Half Hollow Hills School District along with representatives of REACH-CYA. The function of this Committee is to provide immediate relief to families in crisis.Funds will be raised through donations, fund raisers and/or grants. The Committee will review requests for assistance which may be made by individuals in the community or by committee members on behalf of families or individuals in their respective school communities.
Many of our schools held fundraisers and other activities; the proceeds of which, along with donations from the community at large have been used to realize this mission.
In the years since Helping Our Own began, numerous families and individuals have benefited. These supports have left Helping Our Own with a declining balance of available funds.
